This blog hasn't been 'alive' as much as it used to be and I'm a bit sad about that. But fact is that I have so much to do for school, so much to think about and still not forget to have a social life that blogging has inevitably became less important as it used to be. So I decided to take a small break (approximately a month) to get everything sorted out and hopefully make a good new start instead of crawling on.

Snow had finally fallen in the Netherlands and like every year it's horrible to get from A to B by train. Took 3 hours yesterday to get from Amsterdam to my boyfriend near Utrecht (normally an 1 hour and something minutes trip) but it was quite ok since there was free coffee and we actually had a train to take.

Anyways, this is the hat I made a couple of weeks ago. Thought it was an appropriate time to share this picture w/ you.

This Friday was a cold and rainy day in Amsterdam but we have a really mild winter so I can't complain. I felt like wearing this skirt with lightning print and burgundy over the knee socks. The top part was a bit plain with only the black shirt so I added the necklace under the collar.

Times are still really busy and I have a lot of things on my mind but I will try to post more outfit pictures! Hope you like this one!

Burgundy coat

In one of the last days of 2011 my dad and I decided to go to the OpenAir Museum in Arnhem. It's a museum that displays the history of Holland and there are a lot of old buildings and wind mills. Sounds extremely boring but it's not! Kids could skate on ice and there's always an old tram you could hop on. On the second last photo you can see my dad pointing out the villages where he has his roots.

Oh and say Hi to my new burgundy coat! I loved the design for quite a while now but never came around buying it. But when this baby hit the sale I just had to take it home before someone else did! I plan to live in it for the next couple of winters and springs!

Versace x H&M Cruise Collection

Versace for H&M decided to make short movies for the cruise collection. You can click to the next video at the end of this one since you can not see them if you don't have the link.

I've seen photos of the cruise collection and I have to say I like it more then the previous collection. The fruit print is actually really cute. But once again I will not be behind my laptop or in front of a store in Amsterdam on the 19th this month in the hope of grabbing certain items. Last day of a wonderful year

Since I got up I've heard firework on the street non stop and that means that 2011 is really ending. It had been more than an amazing year for me!

In 2011 I:
* FINALLY graduated from highschool
* Got my IB diploma
* Got accepted at Academie Artemis in Amsterdam
* Found a place to live in Amsterdam
* Had a wonderful summer and made a lot of new friends
* Went to a Wombats concert
* Connected with some amazing people at my school
* Added a lot of new shoes to my collection
* Turned 20
* Bought a Macbook Pro with my own money
* Played Roller Derby for a while (had to leave the team because I moved to Amsterdam)
* Fell in love with a puppy named Pip

And I know I haven't been the best blogger in the world but there are just times when you have to live your offline life and enjoy that to the fullest. I do hope to be able to update more in 2012 since I do love documenting and sharing things!

Versace disaster

So the Versace for H&M collection is out and about and despite it being everywhere I haven't written about it before (in contrary to other collections). Reason is that the collection is really not my taste! Personally I find at least 80% too tacky and cheap looking. I went to a H&M which carries the collection and wasn't surprised to see a lot of stuff still hanging there! While checking out the fabrics and details I overheard two girls talking about how the collection was 'absolutely horrid and tasteless'.

The men's items are more interesting in my opinion. I like the belted sneakers and the black/white print on various items! If this mohair sweater will pop up in the sale I might actually take it home!

What do you think about this designer for H&M collection?

Wombats

So I just got home from the Wombats concert and I can tell you it was 100% bloody AMAZING! They are [[truly]] really good live and if you like their music it's definitely worth going! They played in the Paradiso in Amsterdam and it felt so great to just hop on a tram nearby afterwards and go home instead of a 2 hour ride.

It's only Thursday but with 4 photoshoots and one concert it's been a hell of a week already!

Last weekend I went back home and noticed that autumn really has arrived. In a big city like Amsterdam you can notice it a lot less. It was so lovely to wander around in the parc, dragging my feet through the leaves and to play with my sweet dog Pip. She's 7 month old already and loves to run free and discover the red-yellow-brown world we live in now. And I did not expect to miss her as much as I do.

So you're probably wondering WTF this outfit is. Well it's the outfit I wore on my introduction because the theme was Folklore! So this isn't a regular outfit and it was meant to be a little...over the top? Things don't always have to be perfect :)

The dress is actually a skirt which is the only thing I've ever bought off Etsy! It has alpaca's on it and the weirdo that I am loves it! You will probably see it more often when winter arrives!

The different designs and materials were inspiring to see! On the verge of a new adventure

I actually want to take a moment to tell you where my life is heading. My blog hasn't been the most active this summer holiday but I will pick up the pace because I missed blogging and the contact with the people I met through blogging!

Like you know I moved to Amsterdam a couple of weeks ago. From being in the surrounding where I grew up, having everything close by and knowing all the routes, it was strange to end up in a big city where I knew next to nothing. Few places, no people, no sense of direction etc. I can't say it wasn't scary but it was also really exciting! I wanted this for so long, finally doing what I wanted, being on my own, choosing my own directions instead of being stuck in a highschool rut that just didn't teach me anything.

Part of my 'new life' was getting a job which turned out to be not so hard. I was hired at the Didi in the Kalverstraat where I've been working for around three weeks now. The store is so different from the H&M where I worked last summer, more personal and flexible. But the best part is that I have great co-workers and that feels so good! Working also gives me a responsible feeling since it really helps out financially. A big part of what I will earn will fund my study and other necessities. So I will not be a blogger with the newest designer goodies, but sometimes I wonder if people really think that's what it's really about? Anyways, for me it's a good challenge to be (even more) creative with my current wardrobe (dum dum daah :P)

If you actually read till this part (if so: thanks!) you're probably wondering what I will be studying in Amsterdam! I've looked at many studies and in the end I've found one that really interested me. I went to the open day and I just knew I had to enrol that school! You had to do an assignment at home, an assignment at that school and have a talk with two teachers in order to get accepted. And I got accepted!! So now I'm a first year student of a Bachelor Allround Styling at the Academie Artemis! Even better is that it's located on the Prinsengracht so I will be in that gorgeous Amsterdam centre every day! I'm starting my actual classes next tuesday and it still feels a bit unreal.

In general I'm extremely grateful that things are finally heading the right way. 2010 was the most awful year and I'm delighted that 2011 is treating me so well! I've met so many great people these last months and I'm finally having good luck.

So that's it. A big change and a new beginning!

Ever since I've bought my Macbook Pro I've been searching for a fun laptop bag or cover with not that much luck. Sure getting a sturdy black bag or a red cover isn't hard to find but when you want something more than that it's probably going to cost you (trouble and/or money).

But this BookBook one is a sturdy leather case which I've kinda set my heart on. It's shaped like an old book and will probably be mine in the next couple of days!

I've been wearing these boots for three days straight now and I LOVE them! I found them in the I♥Vintage store on the Prinsengracht and they are the red vintage boots I've been waiting for!

After signing that contract I also got a call that they wanted me for a second solicitation round at Lush! Maybe it's finally good karma but things are going great lately!

When I was 12 I always wore flared jeans. Some time ago I noticed that all my flared jeans were traded in for skinny jeans and that I did not have one perfect pair of flared jeans left. So when I found these in the Zara sale for only €9,95 I took them home immediately!

Wearing a vest under a jacket is really comfy and perfect for the not so summery weather we're currently having in Holland. Unlike last Saturday we kept it dry today which was quite fortunate since I went shopping with Carmen! After that we went to see Bridesmaids which was funny at times but mostly just a really terrible chick flick. Not recommendable!

Back home Carmen took these pictures of me! They came out well for an 11 year old with few experience with a 50mm lens!

I never was a person who always wears slippers in the house but I decided it was time to get a pair my mom wouldn't steal and in the end I love these slippers more then I thought I would. I dubbed them the 'Pandatoffels' which is almost as horrendous as they look and that's why I love them!

Today was a lovely day with perfect warm weather! I love this a-symmetric dress which I wore with shorts underneath since it's quite short. This dress always remind me of that Doors song (hence the title!)

Ready for summer

Last year I forgot to show you my favourite bikini and since the weather is heading towards proper summer weather I decided it was time to show you. The bottom isn't that big btw, it's just the angle that makes it look like I've got a huge ass :P

I had exactly this necklace when I was younger and I always wore it on my head like this. Sadly that one died over the years and when I found this one I just had to buy it (I'm so nostalgic at times!).

The flip flops are from the Hema for only €2,-. Normally I get blisters from flipflops but these are issue-free! I recommend them to all the dutchies who are still looking for nice flip flops!

June was a really busy month which I've spend working at the FrouFrou's pop-up store, visiting the Arnhem Mode Biennale and doing fun stuff with friends. Updating the blog was sometimes a bit of a time struggle but that's what you get when you live life to the max. And I thank all of you who left me sweet comments!

This monday my friend Mirte and I went to Nijmegen for some random shopping. It was around 30 degrees outside so incredibly hot (followed by a big thunderstorm the next day). I've spend €4,- and at home we had a BBQ in the garden! Such a lovely day!

Today I'm helping at the FrouFrou's pop-up store again. It's the last time this month and I'm a little sad about that since the owners are really fun to be with!

Last Saturday in Amsterdam we popped into the American Apparel and I could finally try on the disco pants. I prefer the charcoal grey over the other colours and I will probably buy it when I haven't spend my budget on other things already.

And sorry for the mirror pic, the messy dressingroom and my blown up hair (it was a really rainy day)!

The soft pink knit is a real winner! I've been wearing it with all sorts of items/colours! I wore this outfit for the AMBer's Suprise Fashion Show on Friday. I was a bit early and had to wait for my company and I met a really nice Belgian stylist who was volunteering at the Arnhem Mode Biennale. Talking to him reminded me that one thing I really like about fashion is still the people. Without a crowd no show.

And I am fully aware that my tights are ripped. I like them that way :)

Perfume & Styling reading

This Thursday I went to a reading about perfume and styling. It was a part of the Arnhem Mode Biennale. It wasn't a big crowd but that was nice for a change.

The first part was about scent. The woman had a great CV but doing presentations wasn't her best forté. Some parts were quite interesting but throughout the reading I personally felt that she missed the reason why she was telling certain things. Sad to say that did not help my few hours of sleep the night before.

The most exciting part was the reading of Zoe Bedeaux. She's a british stylist (even though she doesn't like that term), a prop designer and a vintage dealer. She was incredible to listen to and she left enough room for our own opinions and interpretation. We got to see a series of photo's she has worked on and told about it in an addicting passionate way. It was really inspirational to hear about her view on things. It was definitely worth my money!

So I went to the Arnhem Mode Biennale main exposition exactly a week ago and it was amazing! I loved to see all the designers, some pieces I really wanted to see IRL, how they organized it all etc! I took A LOT of pictures so prepare yourself for for some picture heavy posts!

This is what I wore when I went to school with all the others that heard they graduated! I wanted something fun but also a bit casual. It was a really rainy day so I picked this floral dress to light it up a little!

I got the flowers from my mom! When I was at school she also bought banners for outside and inside the house! It felt so good to pass my exams!!

Nacht van de Mode

Last Saturday it was de Nacht van de Mode (tr: Fashion night), an event where shops in a certain street are open till 23:30. They have mini fashion shows, theater, special pop-up stores with designers etc.

I walked around with my dad and I helped the rest of the night at the FrouFrou's store! It was so much fun seeing all kinds of people in great outfits entering the store and having a little chat. Also FrouFrou's entered a contest where you could have your picture taken and the best outfit would win a €50,- giftcard for the store! You can find all the outfits here on Facebook!

So today was dubbed 'Judgement Day' because today is the day everyone would find out if they passed their exams or not. I had a pretty good feeling about it and I graduated with one 6 and the rest is a 7 or 8! Iris made it too!

Yesterday it was lovely weather so my dad and I decided to go to the Open Air Museum in Arnhem. It displays old buildings and elements from the Dutch history. You can see how a livingroom in the 70s looked like or different kinds of old farms. It sounds a bit dull like that but the setting is really gorgeous and there's a lot to do!

This is what I wore on Friday when I went to the ArtEZ Graduate Show! ArtEZ is a famous art school and their fashion department produced people like Viktor&Rolf and Spijkers&Spijkers. Lonneke, a classmate/friend, got accepted at ArtEZ and that's really something! Secretly I'm really proud of her :P And the show was amazing!

I never wore this much leather in one outfit. I first had a vest on but that blew everything out of proportion. I love the silver top so I decided to focus on that and added a bracelet, necklace and my Jeffrey Campbells.

God, I had a busy week! Everyone still alive?

Studio Amber Shoot

Yesterday I went to Studio Amber to get my picture taken. It's a special event that allows 'normal people' to experience a fashion shoot in designer clothes! I was so happy to get invited since a lot of people wanted to do it! They told me they were completely booked really fast and they had to add two days.

They scheduled half an hour per person or group. First I could pick items for an outfit, together with a stylist. They had some great pieces there, especially a lot of printed items (like the top I'm wearing). After putting on the outfit it was hair&make-up time and I ended up with smokey eyes and a slight poof (thank god not a Snooki poof). The hair was quite similar to how I entered the building but it fitted the outfit so who am I to complain?

The woman who took the pictures was really nice and easy to work with! Because of the flowy skirt we tried jumping pictures and this is the result. I like the end result, I'm only missing a smile :p

These are six outfits from around this time last year. My reasoning was always: Why add black when you can add colour? I remember wondering about people, it always looked like they were afraid of using multiple colours in one outfit because it would be ''too much' and it took them out of their wallflower comfort. And I know the candycane pink outfit is the complete opposite but I rather wear too much colour then too few! How about you?

Mini exposition Bijenkorf

Where I'm at!

Six days this month I will be working at the FrouFrou's Pop up store in Arnhem! The owners are really nice and I offered to help them if they ever needed help and that's how this came about!

I will be there on all the Wednesdays this month and Saturday the 11th (including Nacht van de Mode) and Tuesday the 14th! The store is located in the Hommelstraat (73 - 77).

So if you're ever curious about how I am or the store is in real life, just step in and say hi!

Summer dress // Rainy days

I wore this outfit yesterday when I went shopping with Iris. She found the shoes she was looking for and we bought some nice stuff from the Bodyshop! I had a great time but unfortunately we had to go home early because it was raining like it had not rained in years! That plus wearing suede shoes is not a great combination but we were lucky and we got home dry!

It was quite hard to get this dress in the right size since they run really small and all what's left was a size UK 6 (EU 34) and UK8 (EU 36). I managed get my hands on a larger size just before someone else did. Lucky!

People who have shopped with me before know I always like to check another shoe store while I've been in multiple already. My mom wasn't even surprised (nor needed persuading) when I found three pair in the Topshop and decided that they should go home with me. They all were a great deal and I'm especially happy with my suede flatforms!

The other stuff is from the Primark except the plastic shoes (which were only a couple of bucks and fun for the beach). I was really happy when I found the citron dress since I saw it online and really liked it. I once found a skirt with citron print and I regretted leaving it behind. This makes up for it!

Newcastle

Some quick snapshots from my trip to Newcastle. It was fairly interesting with loud neighbours (don't ask!), a cruise band that sung Rammstein songs, some serious die hard shopping, Starbucks as an reload, new shoes (oh yeah!) and student discount.

We have one Primark here and it's far away and sometimes quite disappointing. So I was fairly enthousiastic when entering the shop. I'm aware of the quality of certain items but I love the cheap summer buys and sheer tights since they don't have to last long. And I was really surprised about the shoes!

The galaxy leggings were always on my wishlist but due to the price being a bit out of my leggings spending range I never came to actually buying it. Last week I returned to their site and saw the Toulouse-Lautrec bathingsuit and my heart skipped a beat. I loved the Tournee du Chat Noir print from the 1st time I went to Paris. For month I had in mind that the day I was done with highschool (and I really detest mine for reasons other then 'skool just sux') I would post this song. I had my last exam today and now I have three months of summer holiday in front of me!

To celebrate my mom and I are going to Newcastle for a shopping day and I'm really excited about that! We actually wanted to go to London for a couple of days but because of family health issues we weren't able to book on time so it's not really affordable. But that's oke since we might get trouble with the ash cloud (again) anyways.

Isn't this outfit lovely! High waisted flared trousers and crochet top are the perfect match for a 70s inspired outfit! Or that top with a maxi skirt and a big floppy hat or over a long blouse. This outfit had a 3 in 1 purpose. I first visited my grandparents so it should be along the lines of descent for the elderly and cute. The second was a BBQ with my school so that would be a fun but semi-casual outfit and after that my friends and I planned to go out so the last part would be a clubbing outfit.

The 1st picture is of course the Visit-Grandparents outfit and I don't like the closed vest and the high socks that much. And please don't mind the bra straps, I could not find my clear straps.

I have this dress for almost 2 years now but I never wore it before because it's a bit static. Spraying some hairspray underneath did help. I do like the print so I might wear it more in the future!
